For travellers who are unfortunate to have to use London Northwestern Trains I have some great news..., they're making some amendments, under the title 'Straight-up Improvements to Your Journeys'.
So at present you can catch the 8.28 from Stoke, arriving in Euston at 10.50, journey time of 2hrs 22mins.
From mid May , following the implication of 'Straight-up Improvements to Your Journeys', you can catch the new 8.26 from Stoke, arriving in Euston at ... 11.30, journey time of 3hrs 4mins.
Some people might be a bit alarmed at this longer journey time but just look where the new route takes you through the picturesque Black Country, you can't help but be impressed.

Think I'll stick to booking early with Virgin (whilst they've still got the contract! ).
